The Best of Bryce Canyon

Bob had a meeting in Cedar City on Friday so Ethan and I tagged along and made a weekend in Bryce Canyon out of it. We made a quick stop, before the lightning came, at Cedar Breaks National Monument on our way to Bryce. We were the only ones out at the observation point and when the lightning struck we knew why...wow that was close. Needless to say as we walked away the ranger came and closed the overlook. It's beautiful there and we were glad we had a quick look before heading out again. Once in the Bryce area we checked in at the Ruby's Inn Campground where we'd rented an authentic tipi for the night. Ethan loved climbing in and out! Bryce was beautiful this time. There were afternoon thundershowers and dark clouds most the evening, but that really made the bright colors stand out.
As you can see from our pictures we didn't let the threat of rain stop us! We hiked down Wall Street among the Hoodoos and stopped at each overlook for a fabulous view. Ethan loved seeing all the deer along the road and wanted his window down all the time for a better view. We were amazed at all the does with twin fawns. One highlight of our trip was picking out and cutting open a Geode in the local rock shop. We picked one that looked a lot like a potato from Dugway, UT and had it cut open as we watched. It's beautiful and now we just need to find someone to polish it for us. We had a great time watching as they sliced it and opened it for us to see. The guys in the shop were as excited as we were. We love weekend get aways and this was a great one!
