For The Birds

Aunt Hailey found a great find...the local Aviary has Winter Wednesdays and admission is only $1. What a bargain! It was a perfect day, luckily there was a "warm before the storm" and it was nice enough we didn't even need our coats...which I left on the chair at home, so lucky us!

We started at Books and Birds. They read a cute book about a turkey vulture then brought in an actual turkey vulture. There were only about 10 of us there so the kids got to get up close and personal with the bird. It was a great way to start our aviary tour.

All the kids ran from exhibit to exhibit checking out the different birds to see and listening to some of their calls.

We paid a little extra fee and were able to go in with the Sun Conures and feed the flock apples. I loved it. The birds were really attracted to me even without the apples. One preened my hair then pecked at my ear...

Ethan was brave and warmed up to the idea of feeding the birds all by himself. He did a great job holding his hand out and letting the birds land on him.

Avery was not willing to let these birds near her. She didn't want to hold an apple and wasn't even sure she wanted to stand by me while I fed them.

In the end she warmed up to the birds and fed the ducks out of the palm of her hand. It must have been the fence between them because if you ask me those ducks were more aggressive than the Conures.

We had a super time and felt a little birdy ourselves in the end, but you can bet we're heading back again before Winter Wednesday is over!
